I hate to be cheesy but in honor of my favorite holiday this weekend (Valentine's Day). I thought it would be appropriate to have our first a look at be on loooooove.
Now most of us have heard the verses above before (if the picture isn't loading for you it's 1 Corinthians 13:4-8). They're used at weddings. They're quoted on TV shows. They're printed on canvases found in department stores. They've become so ubiquitous that they seem to have lost their meaning.
When is the last time you really stopped to think about each line? When is the last time you used each line as a measure against which to grade yourself rather than those you expect to love you?
I am so blessed that God brought someone into my life that was a great example of what it looks like to strive for 1 Corinthians 13 love. I say strive because no human is always going to hit every mark. In addition to giving me a glimpse of what it's like to be loved by Jesus that experience taught me just how skewed my own view of love was. I could quote Bible verses day and night about love but putting them in to practice was a totally different story.
It's one thing to know how Jesus walked and talked but it's a completely different thing to actually follow His lead. I hope you spend the next few days before the biggest love fest of the year meditating on the scripture above. Pray that God opens your eyes to areas where you fall short in loving friends, parents, siblings, significant others, and even those people you don't really even want to like.
I hope that this time of reflection will allow you to approach Saturday with a fresh set of eyes that looks beyond candy, flowers, or dinner dates and looks to the cross for proof of love.
